Experience.

Bryan Tate is a people connector, community influencer, and experienced government and nonprofit leader.  Elected as York County Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans' Court in 2019, Bryan Tate is a recognized civic leader and active partner in the development and promotion of York.

Leadership in Public Service

A true public servant, Bryan was Chief of Staff to former Congressman Todd Platts in both the PA House of Representatives and the U.S. House of Representatives.  In Congress, he oversaw Platts’ offices in York, Gettysburg, Carlisle and Washington and led a staff of 18, providing legislative support and constituent service to all residents of PA’s former 19th District, while building relationships in the White House and other Congressional offices.

​A local civic leader, Bryan served on the York County Commissioners’ Transition Team in 2004, and on the transition teams of both York City Mayor Kim Bracey in 2009 and York City Mayor Michael Helfrich in 2018.

Leadership in Business

In his role as Vice President & Chief Development Officer at York County Community Foundation, Bryan was the lead fundraising professional and oversaw the strategic growth of the Fund for York County, targeting financial support for York’s greatest and changing needs.  As a member of the management team, he provided leadership to guide the broad vision of the Foundation.  Bryan annually raised millions of dollars working with all of York County’s estate planning professionals and engaged numerous donors finalizing their wills and estate plans.

As the President of Building Unrestricted, LLC, Bryan serves Community Foundation and nonprofit clients across the country, leading board members, staff and volunteers through strategies to grow discretionary assets to build a permanent civic endowment to address the greatest needs of the community.

Leadership in Community

  Leading our community and region through his volunteer service, Bryan is Past President of Rotary Club of York, the 25th Largest Rotary Club in the World, and currently serves as President of its charitable arm, York Rotary Foundation.  He prides himself in his support of several nonprofit organizations promoting opportunities for sustainable improvement of York and the Central Pennsylvania region.

Bryan was the first nonprofit leader to be elected Chairman of York County Estate Planning Council, and he serves as Program Chair of Leave A Legacy York County.  He is a director of the board of Cultural Alliance of York County and has served as Campaign Co-Chair.  Bryan is also a board member of the Four Chaplains Memorial of York County, which hosts the annual Four Chaplains Prayer Breakfast.

Bryan is President of the board of directors of Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Foundation, raising opportunities and scholarship dollars for high achieving young women in Pennsylvania.  
Annually, Bryan emcees Encore, the York County Musical Theater Awards celebrating York County’s student performers and their outstanding school musicals presented to the community.

In 2013, Bryan was chosen Grand Marshal of the 30th Annual York Saint Patrick’s Day Parade to honor his service to York.  A great supporter of the York Revolution, he has served as a host family for seven Revs over the years – Adam Thomas, Tim Torres, Justin Green, Greg Miller, Josh Judy (2 seasons), Bubby Rossman, and Isaac Sanchez.


Bryan is Past Board President of Central PA Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), and led HOBY both locally and nationally for 25 years.  A 12-time recipient of HOBY International’s Outstanding President Award, he also received Central PA HOBY’s David H. Baker, Jr. Volunteer of the Year Award.  He was honored for his service to young people and to the community by the Pennsylvania Jaycees in 2006 as Outstanding Young Pennsylvanian.

​​Born and raised in York County, Bryan holds a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Temple University.  The son of Linda Tate and the late Pete Tate, Bryan is a graduate of Spring Grove Area School District, where he was recognized as the first Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 1998.  Bryan is the founder of the Spring Grove Alumni Chorus and served on the first board of the Spring Grove Area Scholarship Foundation.  Bryan, his husband Ralph, and their dog Jake live in the City of York.
